Bio: Code Ninjas is an education center that teaches children between the ages of 7 and 14 computer programming by having them build their own video games. We also offer a variety of other stem activities, including robotics, engineering projects, and physics projects. Our programs include a daily drop-in curriculum, day camps, summer camps, birthday parties, badge programs for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and more.
Code Ninjas of Midland Park is owned and operated by a local couple, Bob and Charlotte Lockwood of Mahwah. Bob has been in the IT field for 30 years, while Charlotte had been in corporate America for 10 years and is now a certified massage therapist. They noticed a need for STEM education in the area, which prompted them to look into the Code Ninjas franchise and subsequently open a location in Midland Park.

The Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat serves more than 120 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in the spirit of Christian love, the residential facility opened in December 1972. The Retreat expanded into the community in 1986 with the development of group homes, where residents enjoy supervised supported living. In 1992 the Retreat advanced its philosophy of providing home-like settings for residents with the construction of on-site lodges. A volunteer Board of Directors, elected from the community, governs Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat.
The Retreat is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, and holds memberships in the American Association on Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, the American Network of Community Options and Resources, and the New Jersey Association of Community Providers, and Council of Reformed Charities. The company’s idea was formed when Co-Founder, Jenny McCuiston, realized the demand for quality swim instruction after teaching swim lessons at a local swim club in the Summer of 2000. She became increasingly busy with customers, and her business grew steadily throughout the Summer. Then, in the Summer of 2004, Jenny decided to teach swim lessons at a nearby Country Club. Jenny, again, realized the great need for quality swim instruction as she regularly accumulated a waiting list and her clientele grew to record-breaking numbers for the club by Summer’s end.
So, with the help of her husband Chris, Co-Founder of Goldfish Swim School, they began researching the learn to swim industry in late 2004. They traveled the country learning from other swim school owners, traveled to several swim school conferences and began to develop their business plan. In early 2005, Jenny created the proprietary curriculum that they still use, and developed their rustic beach house decor, all from the kitchen of their home.
Goldfish Swim School was founded on the core belief that aquatic safety and skills are invaluable life lessons. At Goldfish, infants and children through 12 years of age learn to swim with a staff that is dedicated to top-quality swim instruction. Our state-of-the-art facility and swim programs allow us to teach children the necessary swim and safety skills year round. Classes take place indoors in a warm, welcoming environment with fun tropical décor and child-friendly features. With swim instruction as our main focus, we’re able to be a little more creative…and a whole lot better!
